There is no such thing as a bad character. Only bad writing.

The original idea for Venom was far better than Eddie (it involved a pregnant woman who lost her husband and baby in a car crash, due to Spider-man, who distracted her husband (obviously the driver)). But Eddie still works when done right(the retconned origin in “Lethal Protector” for instance.) Haters gonna hate.

That aside, I agree with you on all listed. Great work.

On an interesting note, Straczynski originally intended for Peter to be the father of Gabe and Sarah but Quesada and co. shot down that idea and decided to pin it on Norman. To make matters worst, Straczynski wanted to retcon Sins Past with the One More Day storyline but Quesada wouldn’t allow it-It seems that Joe would rather retcon Peter and MJ’s marriage rather than Gwen and Norman sleeping together for some warped reason. Does Joe secretly hate Spiderman, I wonder?

John, I totally agree with your article for the most part but you should have included the Ned Leeds Hobgoblin reveal with your list as well. The fact that they had a cool Spider villain revealed as a reporter after he was killed and then replaced with a d-list character named Jason Macendale( Who sucked all over as a character) was unforgivable. Heck, we had to suffer through Macendale for most of the 90′s to make matters worst.

100% dead on but, The other storyline did have one of the best moments ever in a Spidey comic; when the spider killer lame-o rips spideys eye out and ate it.
