Top Five Republican Gay Sex Scandals

Q: How many Republican politicians can you fit in the closet?
A: Evidently, all of them.

It’s gone past ridiculous and straight to the absurd. At this point, it appears your average public restroom has more gay Republicans in it than clean handtowels. The “holier-than-thou” party has spent an awful lot of time on their knees this past year, but they haven’t been doing a lot of praying.

I have no theories why this is the case, other than I think that being gay is the way God made some people and being conservative is a choice, and almost every Republican I’ve met thinks the opposite.

But why question it? The larger point is that if you enjoy seeing politicians destroyed by their own hypocrisy, it’s been a very, very good year. So I give you the top five republican gay sex scandals of the past 12 months.

Mark Foley

U.S. Representative
(September 28, 2006)

The Crime: Sending sexually laced, gramatically challenged instant messages and e-mails to teenaged boys in the Congressional page program for more than 10 years.

The Hypocrisy: Chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. One of the foremost opponents of child pornography in the Senate.

The Quote: “get a ruler and measure it for me”

The Video:

Ted Haggard

Leader of the National Association of Evangelicals
(November 2006)

The Crime: Paying male prostitutes for sex and snorting crystal meth.

The Hypocrisy: A powerful force in the evangelical movement, Haggard participated in weekly meetings with President George Bush and top advisors where he gave spiritual advice. He taught that homosexuality was an abomination and actively lobbied against gay rights.

The Quote: “I did not have a homosexual relationship with a man in Denver.”

The Video:

Larry Craig

U.S. Senator
Senate Liason for Mitt Romney’s Presidential Campaign

(June 11, 2007)

The Crime: Soliciting sex from an undercover cop in an airport bathroom

The Hypocrisy: Craig twice voted against adding the words “sexual orientation” to the federal hate crimes law. Craig also voted to give states the right to refuse to recognize gay marriage–a right they already had, but the Senator wanted to really, really prove he didn’t like gay people.

The Quote: “I am not gay, I don’t do these kinds of things.”

The Video:

Bob Allen

Member of the Florida House of Representatives
Florida Chairman of John McCain’s Presidential Campaign

(July 11, 2007)

The Crime: Offering an undercover cop $20 to allow Allen to blow him in a men’s room in a public park. After being arrested, Allen tried to explain that he only offered to blow the cop because the cop was a “burly black man” and he “didn’t want to become a statistic.”

The Hypocrisy: Allen was one of 21 Florida legislators to sign Gov. Jeb Bush’s friend-of-the-court brief supporting the state’s ban on gays adopting children, and he co-sponsored an unsuccessful bill that would have enhanced penalties for “offenses involving unnatural and lascivious acts” such as indecent exposure.

The Quote: “I certainly wasn’t there to have sex with anybody and certainly wasn’t there to exchange money for it.”

The Video:

Glenn Murphy Jr.

National Chairman of the Young Republicans
Chairman of the Clark County Republican Party

(July 28, 2007)

The Crime: Murphy got a fellow Young Republican drunk and then spent the night at his house. The other young man woke up in the middle of the night to find Murphy giving him mouth-to-penis resuscitation. After this incident, a 1998 sexual battery report came to light in which Murphy was alleged to have done the exact same thing.

The Hypocrisy: Murphy was a well-paid political consultant for Republican candidates and often advised them to use gay marriage as a wedge issue to paint their opponents as out of touch with traditional values.

The Quote: “I was in the Sound of Music in High School…don’t ask” (from his now-defunct Myspace page.)

The Video: Unfortunately, the Young Republicans took down all of their videos of Mr. Murphy. So instead, I give you:

The past year, months, and now weeks have seen a continuance of a “gay” sex scandel,
(the most recent event has been Feb.9,–12,2010) invovling San Bernardino County Calif. Tax Assessor and former County Supervisor William”Bill”Postmus and his aid
James “Jim” Erwin. They were re-indicted by the county district attorney AND Edmond G. “Jerry” Brown (Attorney General of the State of California) for a 102 million dollar scam to for a legal settlement out of the county; Postmus (who had an incompetent, but attractive gay aid named Aleman) diverted money through a chapter of the Young Republicans according to an article in the Riverside Press Enterprise (pe.com), while other stories were carries and are currently posted in the San Bernadino Sun and in the LA Times. It should be noted that the original lawsuit was for 22 milion dollars–and that at one time the settlement reached 300-plus million dollars, but supervisors balked at the cost–the land in question could not be that. D.A. Mike Ramos (also a Republican) has sexual harrassment charges against him–but it involved a woman. It seems that the “young” republicans allow membership to age forty–which is how the assesor, Postmus remained, in control of the that group; earlier investigations had failed to discover that he was “gay”. There are “John Does” as indictments too–involving sitting County Supervisors who were aids to were aids to Postmus–so that this scandel does not end yet. When I came upon the first Postmus scandel, I immediately remembered the first gay republican power couple–not noted in this series–Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s two aids Roy Cohn and G. David Schoen (pronounced shine). Has everyone forgotten the McCarhty
Army hearings and the phrase”Private G.David SHINE”?! (I came accross this site while researching the Young Republicans.) JSL

Looks like another pink elephant just got caught–it”s a bigger closet than anyone thaught

  7. JSLivacich says:

Please note that I do not say or infer that any of those in the Postmus Scandal were or are child molesters; but, on the power issue, many who seek it are doing so to compensate for feelings of weakness and inadequetcy, and thus may find children too easy a target to avoid. A local Republican Congressman, Rep. Ken Calvert,Riverside,Ca., was found with a prostitute in his car –incidently, he immediately lied as to who and what he was– by a Corona Ca. police officer after having bargained his rather young (although legal age)street walker into doing that which they were discovered to be doing for less than $15.00. He is a millionaire. When I asked a prison psychiatrist (and chief medical officer), why a congressman and millionaire why such a person would bargain down the price of a sexual act–the doctor said that it was to assert personal control–sex was secondary. (This was in a womens’ prison and several women had known him–at the time–but not who he was until he was arrested; some of those had said that they “wouldn’t do it for that”!)
The Postmus thing I posted was about being homosexual though, and that when considered in the current contexts must be judged against such gay Republican powers couple as Roy Cohn and G.David Schoen and their quest against homosexuals and Comunists in the Army on behalf of Republican Senator Joseph R. McCarthy of Wisconsen and after Roy Cohn’s fellow aid and boyfreind Schoen (pronounced “Shine”) was denied preferrential treatment by the Army during Schoen’s basic training
duty; they would not allow him to ride in the cab of a truck while the rest of his unit rode in back, and would not allow him to wear a unissued fur trimmed hood when noone else had one. Cohn started the contraversy by getting Senator McCarthy to called of the first televised Congressional hearings in history!
A 1970’s Congresswoman Elizabeth Holzman discovered gay Republican Congressmen and their aids “nude sunbathing” (or something) on the House Portico –for that she was given a position on the House Judiciarry Committeee that she would have waited decades to get otherwise (they five new positions to give a spot). (She retired later and wrote a current book on impeachment–this happened during the Watergate Scandal.) It seems that a higher percentage of gays in both the House and Senate were conservative and Republicans, than Democrats, and all of this raises the issue as to whether or not the right wing, on personal basis, subscribes to their policies so as to seem to be more “straight” and to hide their sexuality and to compensate for being “gay”. There are stories about Richard Nixon too.
