Pink elephants on parade

Q: How many Republican politicians can you fit in the closet?
A: Evidently, all of them.
It’s gone past ridiculous and straight to the absurd. At this point, it appears your average public restroom has more gay Republicans in it than clean handtowels. The “holier-than-thou” party has spent an awful lot of time on their knees this past year, but they haven’t been doing a lot of praying.
I have no theories why this is the case, other than I think that being gay is the way God made some people and being conservative is a choice, and almost every Republican I’ve met thinks the opposite.
But why question it? The larger point is that if you enjoy seeing politicians destroyed by their own hypocrisy, it’s been a very, very good year. So I give you the top five republican gay sex scandals of the past 12 months.
Mark Foley
U.S. Representative
(September 28, 2006)
The Crime: Sending sexually laced, gramatically challenged instant messages and e-mails to teenaged boys in the Congressional page program for more than 10 years.
The Hypocrisy: Chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. One of the foremost opponents of child pornography in the Senate.
The Quote: “get a ruler and measure it for me”
The Video:
Ted Haggard
Leader of the National Association of Evangelicals
(November 2006)
The Crime: Paying male prostitutes for sex and snorting crystal meth.
The Hypocrisy: A powerful force in the evangelical movement, Haggard participated in weekly meetings with President George Bush and top advisors where he gave spiritual advice. He taught that homosexuality was an abomination and actively lobbied against gay rights.
The Quote: “I did not have a homosexual relationship with a man in Denver.”
The Video:
Larry Craig
U.S. Senator
Senate Liason for Mitt Romney’s Presidential Campaign
(June 11, 2007)
The Crime: Soliciting sex from an undercover cop in an airport bathroom
The Hypocrisy: Craig twice voted against adding the words “sexual orientation” to the federal hate crimes law. Craig also voted to give states the right to refuse to recognize gay marriage–a right they already had, but the Senator wanted to really, really prove he didn’t like gay people.
The Quote: “I am not gay, I don’t do these kinds of things.”
The Video:
Bob Allen
Member of the Florida House of Representatives
Florida Chairman of John McCain’s Presidential Campaign
(July 11, 2007)
The Crime: Offering an undercover cop $20 to allow Allen to blow him in a men’s room in a public park. After being arrested, Allen tried to explain that he only offered to blow the cop because the cop was a “burly black man” and he “didn’t want to become a statistic.”
The Hypocrisy: Allen was one of 21 Florida legislators to sign Gov. Jeb Bush’s friend-of-the-court brief supporting the state’s ban on gays adopting children, and he co-sponsored an unsuccessful bill that would have enhanced penalties for “offenses involving unnatural and lascivious acts” such as indecent exposure.
The Quote: “I certainly wasn’t there to have sex with anybody and certainly wasn’t there to exchange money for it.”
The Video:
Glenn Murphy Jr.
National Chairman of the Young Republicans
Chairman of the Clark County Republican Party
(July 28, 2007)
The Crime: Murphy got a fellow Young Republican drunk and then spent the night at his house. The other young man woke up in the middle of the night to find Murphy giving him mouth-to-penis resuscitation. After this incident, a 1998 sexual battery report came to light in which Murphy was alleged to have done the exact same thing.
The Hypocrisy: Murphy was a well-paid political consultant for Republican candidates and often advised them to use gay marriage as a wedge issue to paint their opponents as out of touch with traditional values.
The Quote: “I was in the Sound of Music in High School…don’t ask” (from his now-defunct Myspace page.)
The Video: Unfortunately, the Young Republicans took down all of their videos of Mr. Murphy. So instead, I give you:

Top 10 Democrat Sex Scandals in Congress
10/03/2006
Information compiled from the Washington Post, “Congressional Sex Scandals in History,” and other sources.
10. Sen. Daniel Inouye. The 82-year-old Hawaii Democrat was accused in the 1990s by numerous women of sexual harassment. Democrats cast doubt on the allegations and the Senate Ethics Committee dropped its investigation.
9. Former Rep. Gus Savage. The Illinois Democrat was accused of fondling a Peace Corps volunteer in 1989 while on a trip to Africa. The House Ethics Committee decided against disciplinary action in 1990.
8. Rep. Barney Frank. The outspoken Massachusetts Democrat hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.
7. Former Sen. Brock Adams. The late Washington Democrat was forced to stop campaigning after numerous accusations of drugging, assault and rape, the first surfacing in 1988.
6. Former Rep. Fred Richmond. This New York Democrat was arrested in 1978 for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old. He remained in Congress and won re-election—before eventually resigning in 1982 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and drug possession.
5. Former Rep. John Young. The late Texas Democrat increased the salary of a staffer after she gave in to his sexual advances. The congressman won re-election in 1976 but lost two years later.
4. Former Rep. Wayne Hays. The late Ohio Democrat hired an unqualified secretary reportedly for sexual acts. Although he resigned from Congress, the Democratic House leadership stalled in removing him from the Administration Committee in 1976.
3. Former Rep. Gerry Studds. He was censured for sexual relationship with underage male page in 1983. Massachusetts voters returned him to office for six more terms.
2. Former Rep. Mel Reynolds. The Illinois Democrat was convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault with a 16-year-old. President Bill Clinton pardoned him before leaving office.
1. Sen. Teddy Kennedy. The liberal Massachusetts senator testified in defense of nephew accused of rape, invoking his family history to win over the jury in 1991.
Oh ya Dems don’t have sex scandals, roflmao ya right!!!!!
Funny you went back as far as 1978 to pull out 10. Also, last check, Dems are not the “morals” party or the “God only loves us” party. It wouldn’t be an issue in my eyes at all if those were not a political dog and pony show of the GOP.
ITS ALL OBAMA’s FAULT!!!!!!!
Here’s how you miss the point: Many a Republican, and specifically many of the conservatives caught in the gay sex scandals, are people who have crusaded against gay rights, have held out homosexuality to be “deviant” and “a sin,” and promoted a general sex-negative agenda including insistence on abstinence as the only sexual option outside monogamous heterosexual marriage. And THEN they do this shit.
The scandals you point out represent deplorable behavior, yes. But John’s point was not that only Republicans are guilty of sexual misconduct. His point was, they crusade for a rigid, horrible and intolerant sexual “morality” that they do not, themselves, live behind closed doors. Of public rest room stalls.
So your response to John’s point, which may be paraphrased as “Republican anti-sex crusaders are repressed hypocrites,” amounts to, “Nah-nah, Democrats can be sexual criminals and/or weasels too!” Which, while true, misses John’s point.
Also, how the hell did you miss Gary Condit during that little research project of yours?
Barney Frank – Democrat – U.S. Representative from Massachusetts from 1981 to present. Admitted to having paid Stephen L. Gobie, a male prostitute, for sex and subsequently hiring Gobie as his personal assistant. Gobie used the congressman’s Washington apartment for prostitution. A move to expel Frank from the House of Representatives failed and a motion to censure him failed.
James McGreevey – Democrat – New Jersey Governor . Admitted to having a gay affair. Resigned after allegations of sexual harassment, rumors of being blackmailed on top of fundraising investigations and indictments.
Rev Jesse Jackson – Democrat – Democratic candidate for President. Admitted to having an extramarital affair and fathering a illegitimate child.
They are all criminals anyways!
I really think that you miss the point. The problem isn’t a sexual indescretion, as long as it’s legal, but rather the hypocrisy of someone who rails against others for doing the same thing that he’s guilty of.
Barney Frank is an avowed homosexual and has never hidden the fact. That he got caught up in the shenanegans of his housemate is unfortunate, even if it is somewhat predictable for a man as busy as he is to not notice what’s going on in a house that he merely sleeps. I believe that’s why so many stay-at-home moms get away with cheating on their husbands so easily.
There was also never any claim that he was personally involved in the scandal. The man obviously took advantage of Mr. Frank.
Another website mentions a Republican state congresswoman who also was involved in the same type of scandal regarding an employee of hers and I thought it was unfair to criticize her for it.
Yeah, but most Democrats aren’t against GAY RIGHTS. The point is the hypocrisy. Not the fact that they had sex.
Well, most of them were not gay scandals. And they weren’t involved in gay bashing to get elected. Republicans are the worst of the two bad parties in the US dictatorship.
Umm why do we group ourselves? Like, why do we either gotta be hard-ass republicans or anything-and-all-goes democrats? I identify with neither party, personally. I feel like democrats will accept anyone and anything as long as it’s from the democratic party. I used to identify with democrats, but … I’m seeing that democracy has its own form of corruption and problems. Why not just go with what sounds right to YOU, regardless of where it’s coming from?
May I remind you that technically we are not a democracy but a republic and that our two party system, controlled as it by the folks who print our money, are hardly representives of the thoughts and wishes of the majority of Americans. In your defense, you are headed in the correct direction, just as long as it isn’t to the right.
bbbbaaaahhhhaaaaa!!!!!
It is ALL Obama’s fault!!
LMAO
[...] annual sponsorship empire is precedented upon his good image. Then again, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. [...]
An excellent comment on the hypocrisy of the so-called “moral majority”, who have all the moral fiber of a sociopath. In a recent letter published by UVA’s Cavalier Daily, I pointed out the hypocrisy of the National Marriage Project which is run by W. Bradford Wilcox. The NMP conducts research on marriage, but completely ignores the issue of gay marriage, while also claiming to be nonpartisan and nonsectarian. The NMP tactic is painfully obvious: Stifle the debate on gay marriage by simply not talking about it. This is intellectual hypocrisy at it’s worst guise. When will the Republican Party realize that fanatical Social Conservatism is contrary to the fundamental American ideals of Freedom of Speech and Religon.

Personally, I think Tiger is a stud for doing younger women. I’m not really into golf, but I’d buy Tiger’s merchandise just because he’s good with chicks.
His personal problems are between he and his wife
Clinton was a stud for doing Monica. He should have come up and said “Yeah she blew me, it was great.” Questions?
None of this gay stuff would have happened had not Obama been elected…It really is all Barack’s fault!! Gees ol’ man!

[...] A prime example of this is the instance of closeted (homophobic, conservative) gay men who are married to Good Christian Wives. In order to get their unspoken true desires met, they find anonymous sex partners for sleazy encounters. They risk catching and spreading diseases, endangering their “innocent” wives.
