"Twist" doesn't cover the ending, unless you count the existential shock that a human being would be willing to inflict crap of this magnitude onto an unsuspecting population.

I thought the film itself was excellent, not in a horror movie sense, but in a way that this author refers to jeeringly. Is a Lord of the Flies exposition of human nature (i.e. People Suck) really so bad? That was the point, after all - that we have more to fear from each other than even the monsters of our imagination.

Having said that, filming and releasing an ending this shit-tastic should carry a prison sentence at LEAST as long as that given for purposely hitting an unwed pregnant teen with a Chevrolet Suburban.

The only thing that sucks more than human nature is the director's idea of a decent ending.

So, it's just coincidence that the title means "shit" in German?

"People suck. That’s the real monster in this movie, not the Lovecraftian horrors lurking out in the fog."

Good horror movies often take this path. In almost every zombie movie, it's not the zombies that are the real enemy, it's human nature as society crumbles and people turn on one another.

Shame this one sucked. I noticed Marcia Gay Harden in the trailers. She did look good.

I was really looking forward to this horror movie but I think you just confirmed my worst fears. Bad actors and direction like The Green Mile. I loved the short story as a kid and it gave me a lot of nightmares. I knew they wouldn't manage to make a good movie out of this. It would require a lot more subtlety than big budget movies are capable of.
