groove is in the heart

September 10th, 2006 by John Marcotte

Dancing Dan is something of a Sacramento legend. He is by far the best sign-twirler that I have ever seen. Even in triple-digit temperatures, which we get quite frequently, his energy level is through the roof. He has been working Howe Avenue for the past 6-7 months on behalf of a new gym that opened up. He’s quite the walking advertisement for their services, as he probably has a negative body-fat percentage; although I suspect that is due to sign-dancing and not a treadmill.

We decided that Dan’s enthusiasm for dance was infectious. And since we didn’t have his number, we brought the party to him. He actually passed out cards because he was looking for dancers to work at his company. A class act and a nice guy - Dancing Dan, we salute you.

Oh. My. Fuckinggod. EVERYONE I know up in Sacramento was in that video (except for you, John. Why must you deprive me of your lusty dancing?) and it begs the question… how can you make Ed dance in public but not post on the forums?

I felt kinda bad for the big guy on the left hand side, he was going strong at first then he suddenly leaned on the pole and then wandered off a few minutes before everyone else. Hope he’s OK!

links from Technorati The Sacramento Bee ran an article on the fine art of playing pranks for their April Fools’ Day edition, and both operation groucho and groove is in the heart received nice mentions. Yours truly was even interviewed for the piece. Such as in last July, when John Marcotte noticed a giant sculpture of a human head — and saw an opportunity, a blank canvas, so to speak. Commence “Operation Groucho.”

I’ve got to say, I’m super-confused about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright dust-up. I’m saying this stuff through an Obama-colored lens, I’ll admit — but in no particular order: Obama didn’t say any of this stuff, his preacher did. Compare and contrast this with the Bosnian sniper fire incident that Hillary Clinton seems to have gotten away with. Since when does ... [Link]
