Having enjoyed comics from the 70s to today, I point out that the article is a little too favourable for the retailers (like the author himself). The retailers helped cause the crash by marking up books really quickly - the author did it - which fueled the frenzy, making readers believe the books were worth more and more. I remember X-Force 1 going up on the wall by about 3x cover immediately on release. The retailers were clearly partly to blame. Also the crash coincided with the onset of the internet and the new era in video games - giving geeks new alternative entertainment. But of course, most of the blame goes on the major publishers. Whenever a character is popular, they role out a bunch of titles ( Spectacular S.M., Spiderman, Peter Parker...) Can't they just produce one or maybe two books with the character rather than the overkill? the greed ruined it.

I think that Marvel and DC Comics has gone to a new low because of those lousy story arcs by the likes of Civil War and Infinite crisis.
