If you’re like me you desperately want to buy a Nintendo Wii, yet you are unwilling to camp for three days with a bunch of oily, unwashed 35-year-old geeks who still live in their mom’s basement and spend their spare time debating whether Yoda could beat Gandolf in a fight.
So the best chance a person who actually has sex occasionally has of getting a Wii is pure luck — a random mid-week shipment that no one knew was coming. But how do you find out if your local Target has gotten any in? You could ask an employee, and they will tell you, “No.” But I don’t trust the red-shirts on this issue for a very important reason:
They don’t care. Your average Target redshirt will not even check the computer before telling you that they are out. The paranoid in me fervently believes that if they would just check, they would discover that the warehouse guys are complaining because they can’t navigate past the stacks and stacks of Wii’s littering the aisles in the back room.
So here is the quasi-secret way to find out if your Target has any Wii’s and where those Wii’s are without having to talk to a single pimple-faced, disaffected teen.
Step 1. Locate a price scanner with functioning number buttons on the right side. (This is tougher than it sounds.) Many people are not even aware that these buttons exist, and yet at my local Target more than half of the scanners had broken or even missing buttons.
Step 2. Type in the Target DPCI (Department Class Item) number for the Wii. 207-25-0001 and press “enter.”
Step 3. Read the display to check how many Wii’s are in the stockroom. The numbers after “Aisle” tell you the location of the Wii on the sales floor and the number of facings it should have — not the number that they have in stock, so don’t get too excited when something pops up there. And if they were on the floor, they are probably already gone anyway.
A friend of mine was able to get a Wii this way by figuring out that Target had gotten a shipment of Wii’s, but hadn’t moved them to the sales floor, yet. He hung around the electronics department for an hour, and grabbed one off the pallet truck before they even put them in the case. Score!

If you want to see if a store has counts, go up to a team member that has a handheld scanner. Ask them “can you check this dpci in ‘item search’ to see if you have any?” While the scanners will tell you if they are located in the back, item search shows team members how many of the item is on-hand. If you can try to stand next to them and look over their shoulder, once they see what the item is they might not tell you how many are OH (on-hand). Hope this helps with the holiday shopping coming up.

Got my Wii on Saturday from Target. Got two, actually, one for me and one for my nephew-in-law. I felt a little guilty for buying two, but it wasn’t like I was scalping them on eBay or anything, so I felt morally OK about it.

I work in the Electronics Dept at a Target in Massachusetts. Trust me I know if we have them in and they dont come on a Target Truck. FedEx delivers them to teh store and noone knows when they will be there. But the DCPI thing is clever.

So I am a red shirt and they usually only send the stores like 3 to 6. Those computer scanners are not accurate and take sometime up to 24 hours to update so this advice sucks. Sorry. Your best bet is to call the fricken store.

Hi everone, it is true that every Target store in the USA has Wii’s in stock. Its just there not on the shelves. Target is building up there stock and and passing out tickets this sunday February 11th @ 7:00am. Its just a way to get the store to open up earlier! From what I hear, each store has a minimum of 10 wii’s. But of course, Larger cities Target’s will have plenty more wii’s than that.

Target did hand out tix @ 7 am. We got there @ 6:45 & was the 5th in line. Wii are very happy! They got a batch of 45 wii’s last night - 1st shipment in 3 wks. I think they sold out by 8:30 in various stores.

Rageous was right but the Target I went to handed the vouchers (Target business cards with numbers on the back) out at 7:50 and I was 6th in line. Then the doors opened at 8 a.m. and I got my Wii!
I actually woke up at 5 a.m. earlier today so I could be there at 6:30 and be the first one there… Well, I WAS the first to get there but it was cold outside, so I stayed inside of my car until around 7:45 when people started getting out of their cars and began to make a line in front of the store. I didn’t get out of the car earlier for the fear that this passing-out-tickets-at-7am was just a rumor and that I would look stupid in front of Target employees…and be freezing my nuts off…but it wasn’t a rumor!

Well that blows! I was at Target on Friday the 9th inquiring about the next shipment of Wii (knowing they were due to be shipped the 11th) and if they would give out tickets on the 11th or if it was just run wild to the electronics department to get one. I talked with a manager who told me they don’t do tickets and they only get shipments on Monday, Wed. & Fri. and they put all stock on the floor before they open. Sunday’s ad had wii in it, so I went to the store, even though I was confident they wouldn’t have any until Monday (at the earliest), no Wii at 9 am (of course), none on Monday (of course).
Now I read this… so you’re saying I missed out? I just want to be clear, that the manager either lied or had no idea what she was talking about.

follow up: I went to Target last night 13th to pick up an mp3 player for my daughter for Valentine’s Day and asked the young lady helping me if they had got Wii on Sunday the 11th. She verified they had and that she had personally passed out tickets starting at 7:00 am but still had 4 or 5 tickets left at 7:30 am. She said they had a total of 19 in stock and that I did indeed get “hosed” by the Manager (it was at a different store than hers). She also confirmed they arrive by UPS or FedX and if advertised will go out on Sunday morning. Oh to have trusted the intel I had. Now leaving my sour grapes behind….

Is this method anymore reliable then going to the website and check the store inventory there? I’ve checked NW Arkansas,(Fayetteville, Ft. Smith,Little Rock etc, eventhough Ft. Smith and Little Rock are farther south) SE Missouri,(Joplin, Springfield) and NE Oklahoma (Tulsa and surrounding areas) and we are dry for Wii, no Wii’s anywhere, this also includes Best Buy, Circuit City, and local Wal-marts in the NW Arkansas area, (I haven’t checked out all of them yet, like 7 SuperCenters with 25 miles of me) and Gamestop, EB Games, and Toys R Us probably don’t have any either, though I going check TRU this afternoon.

I suspect that it is more reliable, but I have nothing to back that up with. I like this method because I go to Target fairly frequently anyway, and this allows me to easily check inventory while I am there.

yah i work at target.. we got 60 wii’s last monday and they all sold out by thursday…and yeah you can use the scanners or you can find a “redshirt” and we all have pdt’s and can look it up for you. its required that we help the “guests” as best as we can..i always check on the computer and local stores for the item and call and verify..i know it all..about this kind of stuff..

first of all, the numbers next to “aisle” is the schematic. It is the exact location on the sales floor on the planogram it has nothing to do with the amount of facings…and unless its actually located in the stockroom nothing with show up. we never locate wii’s in the backroom, so good luck with this method.

i went to target this morning…been waiting since 630am. punched in the code.said they have it. went to talk to someone, immediately they respond they dont have it. so i show them that code , and she changes her answer from “we dont have it” to ” well i cant go in the stockroom to get it”. is that possible? and its a sunday. they usually sell it on sundays. what the hell?

They are intentionally holding stock of Wii’s for this Sunday when Target’s big sale circular-ad comes out. Target stores (like all big-box stores) are doing it deliberately, but unlike Circuit Circus or Worst Buy, some Target stores have been “accidentally” selling Wii’s to people before Sunday. Most of the time, the red-shirts in the electronics pause when asked about Wii’s & say “uh, we’ll have them Sunday”. The trackers are correct about the stock levels, the employees just refuse to sell them before Sunday.

I went to Target yesterday to try the code at 8:00PM and it showed some were in stock. I talked to the electronics guy and asked him to check it and he came back out the back with a Wii. He told me if Target has them there suppose to have 3 on the shelf. I got the ghost one. Thanks for the code!!!

I Work in Electronics at a Target store. We DO NOT know when wii’s are coming in Ever becuase they do not come on our trucks. the DPCI thing is clever BUT there is a catch to it…if we get a shipment most of the time we cannot put them out until they are put on the ad so check the ad on sundays if u see Wii’s in it get to your local Target ASAP. we are made to hold them and they cannot be sold. most of the time if you dont see them in the case we are out of stock. we really do know what we are talking about…there is no way for me to check on things like that in the computer i cant just type in WII and expect it to tell me where the motherload is. we can tell by the case and the grey dot put out by the InStocks team if you see either we are sold out….sorry guys but we really arnt a bunch of pimply faced Teenagers working at Target in Electronics we have to know what we are doing and are highly trained…know the job before you bash us…if we say we dont…we REALLY DONT

Dominic: I understand that’s how the system is designed to work, but there a re many examples of people breaking the date and selling them early if you press them on it. I got my own when the guy fished one from behind the counter that they hadn’t stocked on the shelf yet.

So there isn’t a time when theyre just sitting in the back and we tell you “No”, we’re in and out of our stockroom all day and know if they’re there. And if we do have Wiis we don’t let them sit in the stockroom all day, they’ll either be in the case or behind the counter.

They sure do sell them on Sundays, and that’s often your best day to grab one. If they are going to put them in the weekly ad, they will save the shipments they get the previous week so they can fill the shelves.

I don’t know if anyone is still going to be reading this but I just thought I would put out an update. I work for Target, though I’m not a pimply-faced teenager. It still holds true that we hold the wii’s until Sunday morning when they are in the weekly ad. Except for right now until December 4th. Now we are allowed to sell them as soon as we get them in. We don’t know when that is, it’s a surprise to us too. Starting on the 4th we have to start holding them again until they go on ad again. i also work for target and agree with all fellow team members we do not hold them back we do not decide when to put them out we do not only sell them to team members…NINTENDO INC. decides when we can put there product out not us they make deals with all the stores best buy walmart circut city toys r us etc…they decide when we can put there product out not target…if it comes on our truck at night we know it’s being held for a “release” date that was determined by NINTENDO at least 6 months ago because thats when target ads are produced (yes as you read this target ads for summer items are being produced with probley even more WII relaeas dates) how do i know this you ask?? well the target i work for is in the top ten in electronics sales and we regulary have the reps from sony nintendo and microsoft in our store to make sure there product is set correctly and there displays are set up and running correctly…I have talked with the nintendo rep and the have always said the same thing they are making them as fast as they can but when somthing is wanted so badly worldwide what do you expect??? if they make them faster using shortcuts that will just cause problems…would you rather a good working wii or just one that might break cause it was made poorly???
As far as calling i know when i answer the phone if we have them i will tell people if there is a date when they will be in our ad i tell people i tell me team to do this also…also WE do know who the bums are who just want the system to buy to resell..we lie to them tho lol we limit the systems to one per person or one per group cause there is no way a lady need to bring her 5 kids and they all want a wii…at my store the get one and if they don’t like it i gladly give them my guest services number and tell them to have a nice day….
So next time you go to Target and just running up to somboday and saying got any wii’s just act normal i mean it does get to me and it does get annoying me and a fellow team member counted over 50 calls and guests asking for them so think of how we feal…if ihave a smart ass kid i’ll blow him off in a second but if there is sombody who actually talks to me like a human i will talk back to them and give them any info i know i’ll even check all the stores in my area if they have any wii’s…so if you visit your store enough heres some advice make friends not enimies you’ll probley learn more…umm thats all and good luck to all in your quest for a WII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d like to counter your first point. I work in electronics at Target and we do care. We’re the ones who get asked 50,000 times a day about wiis, and yelled at for not having them. I’d love to give everyone a wii. Being beligerent to employees and thinking you can outsmart them by using the instore computer system wont get you a wii. Most often new items aren’t even located yet, and the truth is that Target is not getting regualr shipments of the wii, we hardly ever get them, maybe once a month; when it is in the sales ad, most teammembers who know this will be happy to share it with you, so line up the sunday morning its in the ad, and dont show up every morning at target and act like a jerk.

Isn’t it funny how people think its a conspiracy of retailers not to sell them Wii’s? Doesn’t it make sense that we would love to sell them to you if we had them? Target is in the business to make money…We would LOVE to have enough for every one who wanted one to get one.
Oh and the employee that told you “Thursdays a delivery night” is pulling your leg or you live in a one horse town. We get 2 trucks every night(B volume), but there aren’t Wiis in every truck.

I just got one online at Amazon using wiialerts.com. They’ll send you a text message telling you when there are some available, and if you are lucky enough to get a text when you are at or near a computer, you have a shot of getting one. One caveat tho’: some cell phone providers are quicker getting the message to you than others, so check out the website for advice first.
The word on the streets here is that all the big box stores are getting ‘em this weekend. And the 18th is supposed to be some big special date at our local (Richmond VA) Target. Good luck y’all!

some more info i work for a supertarget and we recieved 75 wiis for sunday…the closer target which is a regular target got 40 so if you want one get up early sunday and get in line…also i don’t know other stores are doing this but don’t expect to bring your four kids and everybody buy one we will be limiting them to one per guest / family we will be watching so those who actually want one can get one and screw all you ebay hounds who just want to make a quick buck…heres some advice get a job cause you are the real reason there so hard to get to everybody else call your local target ask if there giving out tickets if so good luck!!!!!!!!!!!1

I just want to say thank you to all the Target employees and others who are trying to help. It is so aggravating seeing them on ebay for over 500.00 and one seller has 5-10 wii’s! Most of us legitimately want one for a family member as a holiday gift and are trying like mad to get one without spending double. I will be at my local Target this Sunday as I have heard about the Sunday ad here too.

Hi Momof3- I, too, live in Midlothian, and my co-workers spoke with the Target employees in Chester, who said they were having a big Wii “event” on the 18th. I have heard this from a couple of people, but whether this is true or just an urban myth, I have no idea. I just read that GameStop stores will be offering a rain check for Wii’s on the 20th and 21st, which promises you’ll get a Wii by the end of January. It’s not the best, but at least it’s something under the tree.
Just a personal observation, Momof3- shoppers in the Midlothian area seem to be professionals. I might try some of the same stores in the Chester area this weekend. Might be fewer crowds….

yes you can punch the number in and it will show a quantity…BUT it will probley say “no locations found” because they are not stored with regular merchandise…
also if you try to walk into a back room and find one…haha good luck they won’t be there even if they were they would be locked up and also have you never noticed all the cameras in targets? good luck not getting caught….
so again call your target ask when they are handing out tickets and plan on being there early good luck

Just got a Wii this morning from a mid-sized Target in Minneapolis. Got there around 7:20 and there were about 20 people ahead of me. Everyone seemed super excited and optimistic. The store manager came to hand out the cards around 7:35. They did a second around hand-out 15 minutes later. I was pretty sure the store I went to had more than 60. This tactic has LONG been known. At least at my store and surrounding areas. This method is only possible IF the store decides to scan the item into a location in the backroom. To counter this, a lot of stores wont scan them into the system and will just placing them off to the side or in the security office. So you can’t locate them via scanner or pda. Now, here’s the NEWEST method. If you frequent a particular Target, build a relationship with the Electronic’s team members. A little convo or a joke or two will usually do the trick. Then, just ask. We find out via message board like 2-3 weeks before a shipment comes in when they’ll be there. If we don’t know you, we’ll shoot you down like “we’re out of wii’s” knowing there’s 30 in the back. Or we’ll know when a shipment is coming in and will you we don’t know. Or just don’t be a dick when you come in and we’ll usually tell you when to come back. I’ve helped about 30-40 people get Wii’s in my day. All cool…those who give me problems, I tell em “we won’t receive any more for another 2-3 months” when they’ll be coming in that sunday, lol. So 2 days ago I went to the mall (Tiny podunk Flagstaff AZ mall) and passed Gamestop. On a whim fearing the pity and scorn comming my way I walked up to the counter and said (with my head hung in shame) “Do you have any Wii’s”? he whispered back “yes” kinda sketchy like, my eyes got huge and I whispered back “RING IT UP!” and it was the last one. As soon as he was took my credit card we both loosened up and he shared in my victory, the kid was grinning ear to ear that he could sell me this wii. The Thing is I had no idea when they got them in, it was indeed pure luck with no rhyme or reason..
Days later i’m still beside myself. I keep on looking at it under the tree and I can’t wait to use it next tuesday!
The moral of the story is, JUST ASK! you never know who may have one for you. After all is Christmas..

anthony, I wish to differ with you….my best friend works at Target and he said that on the shipment that came in for the December 16th sale of Wii’s they got a chance to buy it before that date, and now he tells me that they got a shipment in but will not put it out on shelves until this coming sunday December 23rd…maybe each Target works differently.

To any of you Target employees on here:
Do you think the Wii will be advertised in any upcoming Sunday Target ads within the next few weeks? I mean I would think it would have to be sometime in January. That’s the best chance to get one in my opinion. It’s too hard to keep checking daily or to happen to be at the store when they arrive. It seems best to see it advertised and know it will be there Sunday morning at opening. All you have to do is get there early and wait.

eddie…that may be true but target is very very strict on certin things like this theres a whole lot of planing that goes into these releases so i’m not to sure about selling before relaese dates cause you can be terminated…i’m the team lead of electronics in laymans terms i’m the department manager and we get inter company mail which basically gives us instructions on what to do…
aaron…as far as your question target stores recieved shipment on monday as well as today and it seems we will probley be getting regular shipments for the next week or so…put it this way for the dec 16th release target aquired 250,000 wiis yes 250,000 so not just tooting our own horn cause i work there but it seems outside nintendo of america stores target has a sweet deal with nintendo…so any other questions just post them and i will be happy to answer

I’d like to know the same thing as Louie from Anthony if you get a chance. I’ve spoken to some of the Target employees by me and they’ve given me very unhelpful information. One thought they wouldn’t get anything in until “later in January” and nobody has any information regarding another Sunday morning bulk sale.

they are not in this weeks upcoming add but today i did recieve a huge load of ds lights i mean like 300 pcs as well as a whole bunch of wii remotes nunchucks and points…like i said the last shipment i recieved was dec 26 but if and when i do recieve any word when a deff shipment will come in i will post it…ok so again any questions just let me know be more then happy to help

I’m still waiting to get the Wii from Target. I’m waiting for it to be in the Sunday ad the next time and get it from the closest Target to me. Is Target planning on advertising it sometime soon? I know it’s not in this weekend or next weekends ad, so the soonest it could be in the ad would be January 13th. Let me know if you’ve heard anything from Target about the Sunday ad. I thought that Target has to start holding Wii shipments for an upcoming ad at some point, so I’d think that would be soon. The last time it was in the ad was December 16th.

Scumbag Target People
So I go to my local Target in Franklin, TN, checking to see if they had any Wii. I get there, and they have 3! A lady who got there right in front of me gets one, and I tell the Redshirt (a 16 or 17 year old boy named Carter) that I’ll take the other two. He was even more surprised than I was that they had any. He starts to ring me up, and some other redshirt walks by, and says it’s only one per customer. I asked if they had this in writing somewhere. She asks somebody over the walkie-talkie, and he agrees – one per customer, and she leaves. I ask the kid,” if I go to my car and come back, I can buy the other one, right?” He says, “sure, I don’t see why not.”
So I sprint to my car, and sprint back. I get back out of breath, and ask the kid if can I have the other one. He says “Sorry, I just sold it.” I ask him if he bought it himself, and he says “No, I sold it to somebody else.” So, I go to another section of the store, and ask a different Assistant Manager type (named Deimer or something like that) if they have any Wii’s. He says they have one left. We go back, and the kid had stashed it for himself!!!! So when I get there with the Asst Manager, the kid tells him that I already bought one. They refuse to sell it to me, saying that it’s one per customer per day. They call the general manger over, some fat guy named Greg, and I ask him if they have this policy in writing. He said “I don’t have to have it in writing, I can make whatever policies I want, and it’s a hot item, one per customer.” I ask if they teach all of their sales associates to LIE to customers, and he says “I’ll deal with him later.” The assistant manager makes him put it back in the locked glass case.
I call my friend to have her come over and buy it, and I wait in the aisle watching it. The kid walks by several times eyeballing me, and I’m sure if I hadn’t been waiting there, he would have swiped it for himself again. My friend gets there just before some other lady realized what it was. We ended up getting it, but only by a nose. To his credit, the kid says “sorry for what happened earlier” as we were checking out.
Don’t trust the schmucks at Target!!! They clearly don’t care about customers, they’ll screw you any chance they get. The kid was a liar, and the manager was extremely arrogant. Keep this in mind when shopping for a Wii at Target!

Does anyone know what the price SHOULD be if one is scored at Target? On a website called realtime Wiis they are advertising the basic console for $435 with nothing extra. That seems like eBay prices.

Thanks for the Target tip. My husband got a wii this morning, after camping out from 5am on. He tried to talk the manager into giving him one yesterday b/c the inventory check showed they have them in stock. After being lied to by two employees, the manager finally told him that Nintendo did not want them releasing them until the ad came out. Thanks again for all the tips.

I must express my thanks as well! My boyfriend, myself and his mom all went to seperate Targets this morning, and his mom is the one who scored a Wii for us! The store had 26, and she was 10th in line
And this was after 6 weeks of us looking!!

Thanks for all your help in getting my Wii. I had subscribed to several different online trackers, which I found not so helpful. Then I read online that Target would have Wiis on February 24 as advertised in their sales circular. I called two stores in my area on Saturday night. They both confirmed they had Wiis in stock but said they could not sell them until Sunday. They told me they would give out tickets and suggested I get there early. After waiting out in the freezing cold for about an hour and a half, I was first in line. The store got 30 Wiis and almost sold out as soon as they opened. I love it and am addicted!

Got mine at Circuit City today. They had about 25 at my local store in San Diego, handed out numbers to people waiting at opening. About 5 minutes before opening 10am, they were all handed out.

I managed to score a wii by going to my local circuit city late saturday night and picking up a copy of the sunday ad and they had a limited quantity of them so I went home at got back at around 6:30am and I was the first and line I picked up a wii and was so happpy I would reccomend circuit city over taget because they get larger quantities

I also heard a rumor that Best Buy Sunday AM will have more come in. - But that is second hand from the kid who picked up the phone last night at BB.

I was able to walk into Best Buy Sunday right at 10am (Didn’t wait in line as it turns out they had 60 on display) and walked right out with a Wii under my arm. you’re right to doubt…if it get a call on my walkie asking for a location check…more often than not i don’t claim to be checking while continuing about my buisiness….after a minute i reply “i’m not showing any locations” i don’t like leaving the back room, especially to go to the front of the store and climb around the electronics closet. sorry that’s just how things work. however let me take this opportunity to do some good, wii fits are currently in the back of most targets with a “hold until 06/29″ tag on them.

I am on vacation this week and just happened to be at the Wilmington, DE 19803 Target today around 4pm. My wife and I were shocked to see they had half a dozen Wii consoles in stock - we had never seen an actual Wii box with a console inside it before. At first, I couldn’t figure out what they were, hehe.
The Target guy who sold it to us said they had only come in one hour ago, so we were pretty lucky.
