Almost a full year ago, Badmouth published the target wii inventory checker, which allowed you to see how many Wiis your local Target store had on hand, even if they were hidden out of site in the back storeroom. (The trick still works, by the way, so check it out if you’re looking to score a Wii.)
Little did we realize that it would still be getting traffic after all this time, as Wiis remain an elusive item in the wild. An enterprising Badmouth reader and Target employee by the name of “Sarah C” recently added this to the conversation:
Sarah C writes:
I work for Target, though I’m not a pimply-faced teenager. It still holds true that we hold the wii’s until Sunday morning when they are in the weekly ad. Except for right now until December 4th. Now we are allowed to sell them as soon as we get them in. We don’t know when that is, it’s a surprise to us too. Starting on the 4th we have to start holding them again until they go on ad again.
Starting on December 4th, Target will be stockpiling Wiis for a future ad. The smart money is on December 9th or 16th. So if you are still among the Wii-less, plan on getting up early and getting down to Target on Sunday.
Sarah also gave us a few tips on how to get more detailed information on Wii availability from the redshirts. We’ve updated the Target checker appropriately.

You know, Target has every right to stockpile… your “source” is completely incorrect as to the dates we will be getting them and “stockpiling” them. We hold them to ensure that since the item is featured in the Ad we have some for at least the first day The are in the Ad that begins the 16th of this month, and even if you “check the stockroom” you could cost someone their job just because you’re getting all pushy and demanding that the item be brought out to you… Those locations are not really accurate, there could be ghost (false) locations…
Nate,
No one ever said Target didn’t have a right to stockpile, and if you have better information on dates, we’d love to hear it. (Although, I would point out that we guessed the 9th or the 16th — you seem to be confirming the 16th.)
And stop being so melodramatic. You can’t “cost someone their job” by checking if there are some in the stockroom. If they are being held for an ad, the guy isn’t going to get fired for not selling them. But that information might help you get an idea of how many that Target has in stock. Combined with a friendly conversation with a Target employee, and you have all the information you need to decide if you want to wake up early and stake the store out on Sunday.
Sarah,
could you tell us about how many your Target is going to have so we can get an idea about how many each Target is going to have. Thank you
I work for Target as well and i got the down low from several people that i know that work in electronics about when and how the Wii’s will be released.
I’ve seen the next coming ad and the Wii’s are definitely on there at their normal pricing range.
The Wii’s arrived in my store on Tuesday and my store only has about 51 Wii’s.
If you want a WII you MUST be in line prior to when we open at 8am. Tickets will be given out at one per person at 7:30am. If you miss that chance then your SOL.
I will be waiting in that line myself to get a WII for a christmas gift and i just am hoping no one starts a Wii riot or anything
Any news for Wiis at Target in Southern California? Specifically Orange County? Am I kidding myself?
I know of some guy whose sister needed cash (for who-knows-what) and sold his WII to a PAWN SHOP. Not Ebay, not craig’s list…not any place where you’d get retail price or more. A friggin’ pawn shop!
Of course, we’re talking about someone who would steal from their own brother…
