As many longtime readers will remember, I somehow botched an opportunity to embezzle millions of dollars from the Nigerian treasury with my good friend Moshood, who was the son of the late deposed dictator of Nigeria.
I was reading the news when I discovered that six men were arrested in South Africa for participating in what they are calling “The Nigerian E-mail Scam.” Because of my good friendship with Moshood, I read more. It seems these scammers were using a variation of the same letter I recieved from Moshood. Undoubtedly, they had heard of his plight and were seeking to benefit from his misfortune.
That seemed particularly cruel when you reflect that Moshood recently lost his father in a bloody and violent coup. I was not a very good friend to Moshood. I stopped replying to his e-mails months ago. And here he was, being exploited in front of the world. So I sent him an e-mail expressing my condolences.
Now we wait.

When you say “Now we wait”, do you mean for your buddy Moshood to respond, or are you refering to the number of days between you makin’ with the funny?

I sent one of those “arrested” guys a pithy note since I received many exhortations to join them in laundering the gross national income of some country that sounded like Lesotholand??? (sp) Who knows, they just kept sending me more e-mails asking for my bank account number.

I feel bad for Moshood for having to live in a country where one is actually _arrested_ for embezzling. Here one just takes the fifth and retires with the ill-gotten gains. Free Moshood!
